Blingo: a search engine almost cooler than Google

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

BlingoBlingo.com is a search engine that utilizes Yahoo and Microsoft Live, and Ask.com to get your search results. The twist is that it’s run by Publisher’s Clearing House (those crazy people who give away checks too physically large to actually cash in), so you can actually win prizes every time you search.

  • You don’t have to be registered to win (any shmoe can do it)
  • If you do register, one search a day enters your into their big sweepstakes
  • Inviting friends means when they win, you win
  • You can win things as small as a movie ticket to as large as $500 and more

There’s not much more I can say… I’m using this puppy like there’s no tomorrow. I set it as my homepage and use it in my search bar in Firefox. Sign up… it’s good for you.

GWAR - Bob Dylan, eat your heart out

Saturday, April 12th, 2008

GWARGWAR… it’s a noise. It’s a state of being. It’s a band. Created in 1985 and dressed as they are at right, would you believe they’re still around… doing things?

A mix of heavy-metal and punk rock, these guys are probably best known for their outrageous costumes and ridiculous on-stage performances: throwing “bodies” into a “machine” and spraying the audience with “blood” and “semen.” Oh my… where can I get some “tickets”?

Current members include: Oderus Urungus (immediate front in the above picture), Beefcake the Mighty (far back right), Flattus Maximus, Balsac the Jaws of Death, and Jizmak Da Gusha. But don’t forget those great former like Nippleus Erectus, and Lee Beato (and there are oh so many more).

Alas, talking doesn’t do these guys justice… so check out some videos after the jump.

Second Superman movie to be a finale

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

SupermanSuperman returns… but just long enough to say hi. No time for a “stop and chat.” You know how it is.

The heirs of Superman co-creator Jerome Siegel are entitled to a share in the U.S. copyright of the Man of Steel, according to a federal judge in Los Angeles.

Warner Brothers (who is the sole owner of the international copyright) is obviously challenging the ruling. However, if they lose, then they don’t get to do whatever the hell they want, whenever the hell they want (starting 2013). The heirs would control the user of the Superman character until at least 2033.

With this in mind, it looks as if the sequel to the franchise will be the finale to the franchise; the idea being that you can’t reboot a franchise if you don’t have the time to make… ya know… movies. So they’re going to take what time they have left and make one last hooray (and hopefully cash in where Superman Returns had a little trouble).

This last film will most likely be based on the most recent script pitched to the studio: Doomsday. This, of course, is based on the recent (2007) feature length cartoon entitled “Superman: Doomsday” which is based on the DC Comics’ “The Death of Superman” storyline (where Superman lives gets badly injured).

IMDB still has the next film title listed as “Superman: Man of Steel,” but keep your eyes peeled for “Superman: Doomsday Live Action Spectacular“.

Superman Returns foreign gross: $190 million
Superman Returns IMAX gross: $23 million
